A Pedagogical Framework For Digital Tools

Dolly Bhasin 's curator insight, December 27, 2012 12:10 AM

The framework is based on a distinction between a monological, a dialogical, and a polyphonic form of teaching. The three forms of teaching can be distinguished by their different perceptions of how learning takes place, and by their different perceptions of the relations between subject matter, teacher and student. By considering which form of teaching one wants to practice, one may, on the basis of the pedagogical framework, assess whether it would be appropriate to use a specific tool in teaching.

Alfredo Corell's curator insight, December 27, 2012 3:44 PM

changing among 4 different frameworks - interesting and short reading

Miloš Bajčetić's curator insight, December 28, 2012 2:46 AM

The monological form of teaching – Learning is the student's acquisition of this knowledge.Tools – distributing and intermediary tools.

The dialogical form of teaching – Learning is seen as the student's development of this inherent basis of knowledge. Tools that support students' problem oriented; simulations and more advanced learning games.

The polyphonic form of teaching – Learning is the student's participation in exchange of many different individuals' perception of the world.

Tools that support equal collaboration

Great tips on how to facilitate collaborative learning. Learners that work collaborativley are engaged in their learning and have better learning outcomes.

Marina Cousins's curator insight, April 10, 5:06 PM

I liked this article, as it highlighted to me the importance of collaborative learning is much better than individual learning.  As I have mentioned several times, the learning and assessment that takes place within my workplace has a strong behaviourist foundation of learning and repeating key words and actions to pass an assessment (it is a very individual approach to learning).

Many of my colleagues view this experience of learning & assessment in a negative way.  What are some of the ways to overcome this negative view of learning?

After reading this article, I will seriously consider using a collaborative learning style within my workplace (if I get the opportunity).  The advantage of using real world problems or clinical incidents is that it offers the learner the opportunitity to improve their critical thinking skills and problem-solving ability.

Therefore, by using collaborative learning you can apply the following learning theories of cognitivism, constructivism, objectivism.

Hazel Kuveya's curator insight, April 10, 6:22 PM

Keeping the groups at moderate levels will ensure an effective exchange of ideas and participation in all involved, I can echo the same statement that two heads are better than one. It is also interesting to learn that collaborative teams attain higher level thinking and preserve information for longer periods as compared to  their individual counterparts., yes the use of technology makes collaborative learning manageable.

CERT's curator insight, May 15, 2013 1:09 AM

We, as teachers are frequently under the impression, that unless we control what children learn, we wouldn't have done our duties as teachers. At CERT we believe that giving the children enough flexibility to be creative and express their own ways of learning, is an imperative ingredient in the recipe for success and excellence. We need learners who are critical, reflective and show initiative. Rote learning, standardised tests, etc. are easy ways to have a silent classroom. Learning goes so much more beyond that.

Deborah Owen's curator insight, May 18, 2013 9:06 AM

"The reality in Canada, which is unfortunate in Dr. Sahlberg’s view, is that students are rewarded for competing against their peers, teachers are held accountable by their class’s performance on exams, and schools are compared through widely published standardized test results. Finland takes an alternative approach. Students receive only narrative evaluation instead of marks or grades until Grade 5. Thereafter, their grades rely on how they’ve performed relative to their individual potential rather than as compared to their classmates. “Teachers stress grades as little as possible,” Dr. Sahlberg says. “This means that students ‘compete’ against themselves, not one another.”"

Can the Brain be Trained to Better Multitask?

Can the Brain be Trained to Better Multitask? | 21st Century Learning tools | Scoop.it

The first role of trained infotention is to recognize whether or not  multitasking, single-minded focus,  or alert but diffused attention is the most appropriate mind-tool for the task at hand. However, for those many situations in which multitasking is either necessary or preferable or both, the most important question is whether -- and to what degree -- multitasking more effectively is a learnable skill. -- Howard

"Results showed that participants did much better at multitasking after training. Interestingly the benefits transferred to the untrained dual task. Brain training can thus be used to get better at multitasking!"

Via Howard Rheingold, Tom Perran
more...
Jenna Becerra's curator insight, February 19, 2013 10:52 PM

Before one can think about multitasking, it is important to take into account that it is more than just practice. One has to be metacognitive in his or her approach to learning and paying attention to what is important. Know individual tendencies, but also know that a mind can be trained. Multitasking is not always the right approach, but it is often inevitable. Training one's mind to multitask effectively will only result in efficiency.

Anne Macdonell's curator insight, May 14, 2013 5:28 AM
