President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday said the government will raise the standard of education to achieve and maintain basic school enrollment at 100 per cent.
Speaking in Eldoret, he said transition to secondary, tertiary and university level will be scaled up by knocking down barriers hindering access to education.
“I repeat this: by 'every Kenyan', I mean that no Kenyan will be left behind in the transformation of education, economy and our nation,” the President said.

Kenya: Nakuru Grapples With 1,785 Teacher Shortage

Nakuru county commissioner Mohamed Birik has said public schools in the county are experiencing shortage of 1,785 teachers. Birik said Kuresoi, Molo, and Bahati are the worst hit. He said the government is planning to recruit more teachers. Birik said his office will work with the governor to ensure more teachers are employed.

Kenya: WFP and Canada Launch Cash Transfers Pilot for School Meals Programmes in Kenya

Nairobi — The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), in conjunction with the Government of Kenya and Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), today officially launched a cash transfer pilot for school meals in Kenya's arid regions - the first time this initiative has been taken in Kenya.

The Canadian government has provided CA$10 million (around US$9.6 million) to support feeding programmes in Kenyan schools. Part of this contribution will go towards cash transfers to enable schools to buy food from local traders or smallholder farmers, stimulating agricultural production in arid areas.

Aga Khan schools to launch on bi-lingual curriculum

The Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa has introduced a bi-lingual programme in its education curriculum that it intends to roll out to all its 20 institutions in Asia, Europe and the US. This new bi-lingual programme will see pupils and students learn all their subjects in English and Kiswahili.
