10 principles of teaching yourself anything | Capital Campus | Kenya School Report - 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

If you have ever watched the movie Good Will Hunting starring Matt Damon and Robin Williams, you can’t help admire the young man played by Damon who becomes way intelligent than the students by spending time at the library and by observation. The movie is inspiring. But there are people who have achieved raving success by teaching themselves a skill or a competency.

Why you keep meeting ‘strange’ questions in an exam | Capital Campus

Why you keep meeting ‘strange’ questions in an exam | Capital Campus | Kenya School Report - 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

There is a time in campus when everything comes to a standstill.  You can hardly find ten students in the TV room watching that favorite soap opera or program they follow keenly. The hostels are barely occupied you can think students have gone on vacation. The ever full blast stereos are reduced to some soft soothing music. This is the only time you go to the library and find it fully packed. Exams must be around the corner. The queue at the cafeteria moves quicker and the occasional chuckles and laughter are reduced to hush tones of meaningful discussion.  All these point to how seriously exams are taken and how they quickly change the general atmosphere in campus.

The Surprising Technology Used By Famous Authors - Edudemic | Kenya School Report - 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
When I was in college, I may have voiced some annoyance at writing a particularly long assignment (likely my thesis, but I can’t remember for certain). My advisor literally laughed in my face, turned around and grabbed a thick volume from the bookshelf behind her desk, and plopped it down with a loud thud. “I …

Connected Learning: The Power Of Social Learning Models

Connected Learning: The Power Of Social Learning Models | Kenya School Report - 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

"Connected Learning “is an answer to three key shifts as society evolves from the industrial age of the 20th century and its one-size-fits-all factory approach to educating youth to a 21st century networked society.”

1) A shift from education to learning. Education is what institutions do, learning is what people do. Digital media enable learning anywhere, anytime; formal learning must also be mobile and just-in-time.

2) A shift from consumption of information to participatory learning. Learning happens best when it is rich in social connections, especially when it is peer-based and organized around learners’ interests, enabling them to create as well as consume information.

3) A shift from institutions to networks. In the digital age, the fundamental operating and delivery systems are networks, not institutions such as schools, which are one node of many on a young person’s network of learning opportunities. People learn across institutions, so an entire learning network must be supported."
