It is amazing the increasing number of students enrolling for free online university courses in Kenya. Just recently, I met a group of flamboyant students at Kenyatta University studying a course offered by Johns Hopkins University on coursera (Coursera is one of the biggest free online learning platforms). One of the students told me that it’s the easiest way of getting a certificate even if you are not onsite in the collage.

From administration police officers are doubling up as teachers to a local administrator and a chief playing the role of running a school single-handedly. Teachers’ shortage or absence is becoming the norm in Turkana County. And as Sally Mbilu reports, the move by the Teachers Service Commission to advertise for the recruitment of 10,000 teachers is just a drop in the ocean and may not be a solution to the teachers’ shortage crisis experienced in most parts of this country.

UoN tops in East Africa, ninth in Africa – Uni ranking | Capital Campus | Kenya School Report - 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

The latest university ranking by The Web Ranking of Universities has ranked the University of Nairobi as the best university in East and Central Africa. UoN has been ranked as position 9 in Africa, out of 1307 ranked universities in Africa. The University has also registered the highest improvement internationally in its history since inception, standing position 907 out of 22,000 universities ranked. This has been a major improvement since it stood at position 1167 in January.
