This SlideShare will teach you more about viral content than anything else you'll read today

You are bad at predicting virality. We are less bad (barely.) That's why science is here to make us all better. Learn all our secrets to winning the internet, one headline at a time. If you've seen previous versions of our training, some of this will be old hat. But we put a new hat in there too.

Daniel Groenewald's insight:

Going viral is an art and science. But have we moved on from the days when record executives and television produced defined our tastes and shaped our view.

A couple of weeks ago, I curated a piece on Upworthy's curation secrets that Beth Kanter commented with a link to a follow-up post. The  post is a good summary of the above but the slideshare presentation itself is priceless if you have a few more minutes.

Some of the rules that you might have heard of on what makes Upworthy successful such as writing 25 headlines or A/B testing them are not just mentioned here but shown in very practical ways that will make you want to try them asap.

Now, one thing to keep in mind though: as it's been analyzed and explained in that great post, nothing will ever permanently work when it comes to viral distribution - because of the very nature of human psychology and the fact we constantly adapt ourselves to new trends. So while headlines a la upworthy will pass, the pragmatic experimental process will stay.

Will the 21st century be the era of online learning?

Will the 21st century be the era of online learning? | 21st century learning | Scoop.it
The Internet already has made its mark on teaching and learning, and panelists at the Milken Institute Global Conference predict this is just the beginning.
Daniel Groenewald's insight:

Maybe. Online learning is a terrific tool for promoting specific types of learning.  As an instructional tool, it's great, especially for those who've mastered the schooling system. I learned how to iron a shirt from Youtube. Sadly, I can't do it in 3 minutes like the master tailor. But what about the learning of younger students - who need someone to encourage, motivate, challenge, relate to and provide immediate nuanced feedback? John Hattie's enormous studies of "effective learning" remind us in the school context that it's all about just in time quality teaching feedback, support and monitoring. Perhaps we should ask: what's the real value in face2face teaching and earning?

Selinger predicts that classrooms will use fewer books and more technology, including LCD displays where students can plug in their own mobile devices to share their work or solve problems in groups. Collaborative technologies, such as interactive whiteboards or interactive whiteboard tables, will encourage a natural learning progression as students work together to solve challenges.
