Twitter Basics for Students

Twitter Basics for Students | 21st Century Learning and Thinking | Scoop.it
Have you heard of Twitter? Do you like to tweet? Most likely you’ve utilized social networking websites such as Facebook. So why would you consider using Twitter?

To enhance and increase connections with classmates – and potentially your instructors, as you may not find it easy to network with students on other sites and it is very unlikely that your instructors will appear on your friends list. What if I told you that this can help you develop an academic network and support system?

===> By the end of this post I believe you will want to give it a try and more importantly, you’ll likely find it can be an effective personal learning network. <===

A Parent's Guide to Educational iPad Games - iPads in Education | 21st Century Learning and Thinking | Scoop.it

Call me a heretic but I don't see great value in games that have players stealing cars and beating up innocent bystanders. I'd rather see children have fun playing games while also learning important skills as a byproduct. In that spirit, I've started a list of educational iPad game apps for casual home use. They don't necessarily help you master long division or prepare for an upcoming geography test. The accent is primarily on having fun. The second important criterion is that time spent playing is productive and that something of value is learned.

malek's curator insight, September 17, 2013 5:23 AM

A myriad of threats:

* Employers often cannot assess data breach exposure on unmanaged BYODs

*Lost or stolen BYODs  that  contain sensitive data, with less than 1 in 4 can be remotely wiped.

* When BYODs bypass inbound filters normally applied to corporate devices, they’re vulnerable to malware

and the list goes on and on

Now that you know it, so DONT- BYOD!!! Got it?

Dean Mantz's curator insight, September 22, 2013 7:50 PM

In reviewing my Scoop It recommendations I came across a curation established by Tom D'Amico (@TDOttawa) .  His Scoop It site is  iGeneration - 21st Century Education.  As many of you know, I am honored to be working with pre-service students at Sterling College (KS) as an Adjunct Professor.  My course is entitled "Technology in the Classroom".  As one of my major points on using technology is that the students must be considering "How" the technology will be used to provides avenues not available in other manners as well as corporating HOTS and critical thinking skills.  Through that approach articles like this one are great reads and discussion points for all parties to discuss effective use of technology.
