Leaders Influence

Leaders Influence | 21st Century Leadership | Scoop.it

Leaders Influence. Managers must think and be leaders, but leaders do not have to be managers.

To be a leader you must influence people to take action, take action in the way you want them to take action, and finally take sustained action that is sufficient to get the job done.

Leaders have vision, and they learn to articulate that vision. Truly gifted leaders are able to touch the emotions of those who follow them. Great leaders master the art of getting people to do something the leader wants done because they want to do it.

High expectations are the key to everything. Leaders set expectations in order to take people where they have not been before. New victories against new opponents, and new challenges. Great leaders keep one eye on the goal and the other on the progress of the team.

When the team sees obstacles, the leader focuses attention on the goal. Obstacles are what people see when they take their eyes off the goal.

SlideShare Alternative: Create Dynamic Presentations That Integrate Images, Video and Live Feed with Projeqt

SlideShare Alternative: Create Dynamic Presentations That Integrate Images, Video and Live Feed with Projeqt | 21st Century Leadership | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Now that SlideShare has significanty restricted its free offerings, limiting the size of presentations that can be uploaded for free, many presenters like me have started looking again for valid alternatives.

Among the many options available, one interesting and feature-rich presentation sharing service is Projeqt, which not only allows you to upload your existing presentations or PDFs, but it allows you to edit, extend and even create new presentations containing also dynamic elements (live tweets or blog feeds, interactive maps, audio notes or video clips).

"Projeqt is simple, intuitive and highly social, playing nice with other platforms by allowing you to mesh together text, image, video and feeds within the same Projeqt."

Key features include:

-> Stacks - build deeper inside a presentation by creating stacks in place of individual slides

-> Cross-platform - works on any modern browser, mobile device or tablet.

-> Upload PPT, PDF or batches of image files

-> Embed everywhere

-> Link together and connect as many presentations as you like.

-> Multiple display options

How to Engage Your Customers and Employees [a road map for stories]

Most customers now ignore targeted marketing campaigns, avoid responding to offers, and provide minimal feedback when asked. Instead, potential customers interact with each other, bypassing sanitized corporate messages devoid of meaning or value.

'Engagement' is dominating the business conversation these days because it is where the world is moving to. Everybody wants customer and employee engagement. Nice concept -- but how do you do it???

When I found this article, I said "Finally, here is how to think about this whole 'engagement' thing, and how to craft some next steps!"  The author clearly spells out what is involved in customer engagement.

The author Ray Wang shares 9 key components of successful engagement: 3 are people-centric values (the why & your starting point), 3 are delivery & communication styles (the how), and 3 are the right-time drivers (the when).

This is no easy task, and there's lots for you to figure out here as you grapple with these 9 components. I've already started making lists and jotting down ideas as I think about the culture of my small company, the community I serve and the steps I take to be credible (the 3 parts to the 3 people-centric values components).

Where do STORIES come into play? In how you connect with your communities (which stories to tell), the content you share, they are your catalysts, and your currencies -- which are all part of the 9 key components. Storytelling is woven through them all.

When you combine this article with the video from Amy O'Leary on "Beyond the Like Button: Digitally Addictive Storytelling & the Brain," http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thVbdqY-cCg&feature=player_embedded you will move light years ahead in engaging customers and employees via stories and story sharing.

These 2 pieces are some of the best material I've curated lately -- and definitely keepers in my book.

At the Heart of “Employee Engagement” – Focus on Action, not Words

At the Heart of “Employee Engagement” – Focus on Action, not Words | 21st Century Leadership | Scoop.it

Employee engagement has been a hot topic for sometime now, and business owners get a little bemused at the constant push in their direction for them to do more to engage their employees, but they don't often see the way forward in making this happen as clearly mapped out as they would wish.

One way in which employee engagement can effectively be improved, is through encouraging within your business the growth of a culture of connection, being the connection of the human kind.

This excellent article, describes in simple terms what a culture of connection is, and then it offers seven steps that you can take to strengthen connection in your business.

On Leading the Next Generation...

Imagine it’s 1995 again. Two digital encyclopedias are about to be created. The first is from Microsoft, a stellar company full of smart people and money. They are on top of the world, as they have just launched Windows 95. Their digital encyclopedia will be sold on CD-ROMs and later online. Everyone expects this product to be a hit.

The second will launch in a few years, driven not by a company but by thousands of ordinary people who write and edit articles for fun. The question is: Which of these two products will survive? No one in their right mind would have predicted the second one—but that’s actually what happened. In 2009, Microsoft pulled the plug on Encarta, butWikipedia continues on as motivated people engage in what they love doing.  It continues to last because so many have ownership of the content. Anyone has a say and everyone is important.

This is a picture of the shift that’s taken place in our culture today. If you don’t get it, you and your leadership will become antiquated and eventually will be irrelevant. When leaders understand this picture I’ve given you, they begin to shift their style of leadership, not their substance, and remain valuable.

Oooh weee! I can’t wait to tell you about this lesson, it’s big and it’s important!

In engineering there is a phase called “Design Freeze.” “Design freeze” means that no further changes to the design. It is a cut off point for the engineers, because if they continue to change the design past a certain date, the product will not be on time for the manufacturing phase.
