Just as leaders must be mindful to leverage the strengths of their people, leaders must be self-aware to leverage and build upon one's own leadership strengths.  World class athletes don't become world class by maximizing their talents -- world class leaders need to do the same!

Don Cloud's comment, August 21, 2013 5:28 PM
PS Leaders should also be mindful of the strengths of their subordinate leaders to coach and mentor them to leverage their strengths as well.

Don Cloud's comment, August 29, 2013 12:31 AM
Seems so obvious that any organization of size does not need 1,000 copies of the same person with the same talent. After all, what kind of football team would you have if you tried to make all the players great quarterbacks?

What's required in any organization, business, industry, military unit is a collection of people with different talents/strengths energized towards a higher purpose. A good leader's purpose is to recruit, grow, and mobilize these diverse people with diverse talents to work together -- that's when the magic can happen ... when the impossible becomes the achievable ... when obstacles become things to be hurdled ... when setbacks become opportunities ... and when the total of the organization becomes more than the mere sum of its people parts.
