Smartphone-Fotografie: LEDs sollen unsichtbare Werbebotschaften senden

Smartphone-Fotografie: LEDs sollen unsichtbare Werbebotschaften senden | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

It's probably the most overused quote in tech writing... which sucks, because I'd really like to use it to describe how I feel about the Chromecast...

===> The Chromecast is a wireless portal to your TV, and doesn’t try to be anything more. <===

Eye Receptor Transplants May Restore Eyesight to the Blind

Eye Receptor Transplants May Restore Eyesight to the Blind | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it
Scientists at University College London have successfully transplanted photoreceptor cells into blind eyes, thus maybe finding a method for curing blindness
Gust MEES's insight:

Watch the video above to see how the process works. The lab-grown photoreceptor cells are planted into the eyes of mice, where they successfully connect with nerves that send visual signals to the brain. The scientists now hope to replicate this process in humans.

A Tattoo That Monitors Your Sweat [VIDEO] | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it
Researchers at UCSD at developing technology that will create a tattoo that monitors your sweat to provide an assessment of metabolic health.

A team at the University of California-San Diego are looking into sensors applied to the skin, much like a temporary tattoo. In the journal Analytical Chemistry, researchers explain these thin strips of adhesive can monitor an athlete’s chemical balance to gauge their physical activity.

Build your own supercomputer: First $99 Parallella boards ship | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it
Who says you need millions for a supercomputer? Not Adapteva, which has started shipping its $99 Parallella single-board parallel processing board.
Gust MEES's insight:

Linux is the top supercomputer operating system. But while you can build your own Linux supercomputer using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products, even with just Raspberry Pi boards,  these don't natively support massively parallel computing — the cornerstone of modern supercomputing. That's where Adapteva, with its $99 Parallella parallel processing single-board supercomputer, comes in.

Light stopped completely for a minute inside a crystal: The basis of quantum memory

Light stopped completely for a minute inside a crystal: The basis of quantum memory | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it
Scientists at the University of Darmstadt in Germany have stopped light for one minute.

Scientists at the University of Darmstadt in Germany have stopped light for one minute. For one whole minute, light, which is usually the fastest thing in the known universe and travels at 300 million meters per second, was stopped dead still inside a crystal.

This effectively creates light memory, where the image being carried by the light is stored in crystals. Beyond being utterly cool, this breakthrough could lead to the creation of long-range quantum networks — and perhaps, tantalizingly, this research might also give us some clues on accelerating light beyond the universal speed limit.

Sikorsky Prize claimed: Human-powered helicopter flies for one minute

Sikorsky Prize claimed: Human-powered helicopter flies for one minute | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it

The $250,000 Sikorsky Prize for human-powered flight has finally been won. A Canadian team, AeroVelo, built a helicopter that was pedaled to an indoor altitude of a little over 3 meters and remained aloft for 65 seconds. While it is an incredible sight to see a human suspended in mid-air by the power of sheer ingenuity, hopefully this feat will draw to a close the fantastic, but unfortunately dead-end avenue of human-powered flight.

Gust MEES's insight:

Basically, this kind of yo-yo style, lawnmower pullstart coupling used by AeroVelo is highly effective to get you $250,000 cash, but not for sustained flight.
