Schools add Internet etiquette and safety to coursework | 21st Century Information Fluency | Scoop.it

The Common Core State Standards will employ technology-based assessments that will test students' research skills.

In the same way that cross-content literacy will become a norm, so too, will the use of technology throughout the curriculum.

The Common Core Standards will demand that students understand net safety and use proper web etiquette.

Schools across the USA are adding coursework focused on Internet privacy, cyberbullying and electronic plagiarism.

INFOLIT EXPERTS MERGE K-12 TECHNOLOGY LITERACY AND INFORMATION LITERACY INTO ONE CURRICULUM | Big6

INFOLIT EXPERTS MERGE K-12 TECHNOLOGY LITERACY AND INFORMATION LITERACY INTO ONE CURRICULUM | Big6 | 21st Century Information Fluency | Scoop.it

From the website:

Information, Communications, and Technology (ICT) Curriculum blends Big6 Skills with ISTE-NETS for a seamless approach for information-technology literacy.

Authors  Michael Eisenberg, Doug Johnson, and Bob Berkowitz blend baseline information literacy contexts from Big6 Skills (Eisenberg & Berkowitz, 1988) with technology standards developed by International Society for Technology in Education’s National Educational Technology Standards for Students (ISTE NETS-S, 2007). The result is a guideline for relevant technology skills all K-12 students could reasonably be expected to demonstrate before they graduate.

Originally known as a research methodology, the Big 6 has newly emerged as a  single curriculum combining technology and information literacy. -JL

Understanding Information Overload :: Infogineering - Master Your Information | 21st Century Information Fluency | Scoop.it

Information Overload is an increasing problem both in the workplace, and in life in general. Those that learn to deal with it effectively will have a major advantage in the next few years.

Information Overload is when you are trying to deal with more information than you are able to process to make sensible decisions. The result is either that you either delay making decisions, or that you make the wrong decisions.

It is now commonplace to be getting too many e-mails, reports and incoming messages to deal with them effectively.

Scientists are notorious for questioning the veracity of publicized research — and with good reason. They want to know: Who conducted the research? Where was it published? What were the survey questions?]

It’s that much more important when it comes to evaluating research in education that will affect the investment decisions of teachers, parents, and administrators.
