Activate - Motivate - TEXTIVATE! | 21st Century English Language Learners, Teachers and Administrators | Scoop.it

Textivate is an online facility for creating and sharing interactive browser-based activities. Text re-ordering, gap-fills, text re-construction, anagrams, matching, memory, hangman, flashcards, millionaire and lots more - all automatically generated based on any text and/or list of matching items that you put into the textivate text box. Much of the site is free to use, and subscribers can upload resources to share with their students or embed activities on a blog or website. It is browser-based, so it works on desktops, laptops, ipads etc. The activities are ideal for whole-class work with any interactive whiteboard. Rob Hatfield, M.Ed.'s insight:

Good article, which shows the classic difference between a typical English teacher vs. an ESL/ELL teacher. Many good points were made as she points out learning strategies. My experience is as he describes and is similar with other native English speakers. Where in certain parts of the world, the non-native English speakers excel with grammar (my wife included). Many variables come together to enhance the learning experience and takes many different combinations of learning strategies for learners to achieve their individual learning outcomes.

Factory and cookie cutter books and materials (fill and drill) have proven marginally successful but lacks true competency or...functional usage of English grammar. I tend to lead my students to the functional usage aspects. This topic is worthy of continued discussion. Thank you Mark for sharing.
