Five Tips for Getting the ESL Student Talking | 21st Century TESOL Resources | Scoop.it

Let's face it -- everyone has something to say some time or another. ESL learners are no different. As a teacher of either online English or classroom ESL instruction, it is important to make your students feel comfortable speaking. They may feel embarrassed about their inability to speak English fluently. Or perhaps they are just shy. As an instructor, you need to ask yourself how you are impacting the learning environment:

Rob Hatfield, M.Ed.'s insight:

I provide modified problem / project based learning with a eportfolio from the beginning to the end showing how the student has progressed with English language. This includes a video of the final group presentation.

Experts Take Notes - The Value of Note Taking Skills in the 21st Century | Ben Casnocha

Experts Take Notes - The Value of Note Taking Skills in the 21st Century | Ben Casnocha | 21st Century TESOL Resources | Scoop.it

According to my friend who relayed this story, there were two older folks in the front row who stood out: John Doerr and Ron Conway. They are both legendary investors in Silicon Valley.

They stood out not just because their gray hair shimmered in the sea of youth around them, but because they were the only people in the audience taking notes.

Isn’t it funny, my friend told me, that arguably the two most successful people in the room after Zuckerberg were also the only two people taking notes?

Why waiting is a new executive’s first task | SmartBlogs | 21st Century TESOL Resources | Scoop.it

While it is important for new leaders to move quickly to fix problems, their strategy needs to include a short period of calm assessment before acting.

During the first 30 days, a leader new to an organization must assess two key elements: orientation (Where am I?) and context (What are the conditions of my surroundings?) Using the acronym W.A.I.T. can help frame a reasonable course of action and head off hasty decisions made with insufficient data.

Rob Hatfield, M.Ed.'s insight:

I like the W.A.I.T. approach in leadership / manangement.

Assessing Student Learning - five practical guides

Assessing Student Learning - five practical guides | 21st Century TESOL Resources | Scoop.it

After a decade of rapid expansion in Australian higher education, student numbers have grown considerably in many courses and subjects, especially at the undergraduate level.

Larger class sizes pose significant teaching challenges, not least in the assessment of student learning. Perhaps most troubling, large classes may limit the amount of feedback provided to students.
