Native speakers are like doting parents: any attempt from you to communicate in their language is objective proof that you are a gifted genius. They’ll appreciate your effort and even help you.

Teaching Oral Communication Skills

Is there a consistent schoolwide language and coherent method for understanding the components of effective verbal communication?

Are there series of lessons that follow a logical, scaffolded pattern leading to good speaking in all of its forms?

Does every teacher have the same rubric with the same language so that students know their speaking will matter and be consistently evaluated in every subject at every grade level?

Rob Hatfield, M.Ed.'s insight:

I recommend the Pod cast link with this article.  The  talk will help all teachers to think through the learning processes of oral communication skills.

Most suggestions are geared toward 7th - 12th grades but  you can modify and adopt the common core listening and speaking components.

Most can be adapted to your ELL teaching and learning environment to use the PVLEGS approach to become effective speakers.
