UX of future telecom networks (5G) presented at Mobile World Congress | 21st Century Craft & Pride | Scoop.it

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February, the UX Lab presented the research concept “Remote Control over Mobile Networks” that they’ve been working on lately. In the following video, Marcus Gårdman of the UX Lab presents the core of the concept:

Vivalist's insight:

Never posted anything VR headset craze on the "Relevant Entertainment" ScoopIt topic I curate... I don't believe that much in VR for gaming, BUT I recently got my eyes open on its potential for 'presence'. Now in retrospect, I understand why Facebook bought Oculus Rift, and it makes me wonder why Cisco did not.

There is still a long way to go for this type of usage, but for a more casual type of "presence", it is doable with current network capacities.

The Maker King

How Carl Bass, the CEO of Autodesk, is shaping the maker movement—from his garage.
Vivalist's insight:

"Bass isn’t boasting. He has poured at least as much money into his workshop as other CEOs pour into vintage wine collections or boats, but his hobby isn’t about impressing anybody else. It’s just for him. He still spends every Saturday morning from 6 to 11 beavering away on various projects in pleasant isolation. And yet, his weekend work is having a profound effect on the maker movement.

A few years ago, Bass recognized that two powerful forces were poised to intersect: the rise of online sharing and the return to analog building in maker spaces. [...] Bass saw that Autodesk could fill a crucial niche by helping everyday people bridge the gulf between digital design and physical manufacture."

Vivalist's insight:

Researchers at MIT have developed a robot that enhances the grasping motion of the human hand. The device, worn around one’s wrist, works essentially like two extra fingers adjacent to the pinky and thumb. A New Geo-Tagged Storytelling Site Might Be The Ultimate Travel Tool: Hi

A New Geo-Tagged Storytelling Site Might Be The Ultimate Travel Tool: Hi | 21st Century Craft & Pride | Scoop.it

From the outset, Hi works like Twitter or Instagram. You start by posting a "sketch"-a photo and a caption-which gets geo-tagged and published to your stream. You can leave the sketch the way it is, if you'd like, and never add anything more, but this is where the community part comes in [and] nudge you to expand upon your sketch by tapping the "Tell me more" button. Now you can expand your photo and caption into a story, or "moment," which can be a paragraph or thousands of words. Instead of likes or thumbs up or hearts, you can simply thank a person with a one-line note.
