9 Digital Learning Tools Every 21st Century Teacher Should Be Able To Use

9 Digital Learning Tools Every 21st Century Teacher Should Be Able To Use | 21st Century | Scoop.it

"The 21st century is a time of rapid change, and while the brain may not be changing (much), the tools we use to feed it are.

This puts the 21st century teacher in a critical spot–of mastering constantly evolving technology and digital learning tools–the same tools their students use every day.

So below, we’ve started with 9 such tools, but this is obviously just scratching the surface. This list is not meant to be exhaustive (obviously), or even authoritative (but rather, subjective)."

IFTF: Future Work Skills 2020

IFTF: Future Work Skills 2020 | 21st Century | Scoop.it

Global connectivity, smart machines, and new media are just some of the drivers reshaping how we think about work, what constitutes work, and the skills we will need to be productive contributors in the future. This report analyzes key drivers that will reshape the landscape of work and identifies key work skills needed in the next 10 years. It does not consider what will be the jobs of the future. Many studies have tried to predict specific job categories and labor requirements. Consistently over the years, however, it has been shown that such predictions are difficult and many of the past predictions have been proven wrong. Rather than focusing on future jobs, this report looks at future work skills—proficiencies and abilities required across different jobs and work settings.

Future Models of Learning - Debate

Future Models of Learning - Debate | 21st Century | Scoop.it

Does new technology conflict with or complement established teaching and learning? What is the impact on the teaching profession as we have traditionally known it? Will the power of the internet, with new innovations such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), create an unstoppable ‘avalanche’ of education reform, or are these reforms a false revolution? Can the value of face-to-face quality learning and student-teacher relationships ever really be questioned, at any level of education? Will the class room, lecture theatre, and traditional notion of education space – schools and universities – be usurped by a screen, online and distance learning, or alternative spaces such as the workplace, home, or concert-hall?

The discussion is more than a hour so make sure you're comfortable before you start viewing.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, July 3, 2013 11:03 AM

It should complement. Art and the French language provide a word for what should happen: bricolage. Bricolage is the blending of two materials, in this case traditional and new pedagogy, in ways that might infuse them. A philosophical approach might to use Gadamer and Vico to discuss sensus communis which is the common sense of a community based on wisdom and creativity.

The format is interesting as it is similar to a Ethnograhic Futures Research format gone viral.
