Today there are refugees seeking safety throughout the world.  There are several regional hot spots of political, ethnic and religious turmoil; many are now asking how the global community should response to the worst refugee crisis in generations (Related article: Migrant or Refugee?  There is a difference with legal implications).

Oh what a mess this is. Oh how the politics of language are being used and all the while, little girls in with a pink ribbon on their hat stand in the middle of a desert with nowhere to sleep tonight. Look at the fatigue on all their faces. We must respond with courage and open hearts, it is our humanity that must come before all else.

Presentation Rubric: Is your presentation ready for an A+? | Create: 2.0 Tools... and ESL | Scoop.it

Most colleges and business schools use a Presentation Rubric to evaluate their students. Funny thing is, they’re not usually that open about sharing it with their students (as if that would do any harm!)

Well, we don’t believe in shutting down information. Quite the contrary: I think the best way to practice your speech is to know exactly what is being tested!

Such debate about the place and purpose of online searching in learning and assessments is not new. But rather than thinking of ways to prevent students from cheating or plagiarising in their assessed pieces of work, maybe our obsession with the “authenticity” of their coursework or assessment is missing another important educational point.

DebbyBruck's comment, August 18, 3:29 AM
This is so right on - thank you. Educating one's self online is empowering only if the user understands the difference between "crap collection" and that which is meaningful and useable at the time of curation. Curation only has value when we use the information in the moment as a motivator and inspiration to carry on in bettering ourselves in the here and now. This is my idea of content curation and educating on what speaks to our hearts in the very NOW moment.
DebbyBruck's curator insight, August 18, 4:23 AM

Online searching/learning has a definite and substantial impact in our world today. Just remember to use regularly what you are saving (or curating), and to balance it all with real world experience.  Visit your elders, your neighbors, your parents, your community, your friends (and listen to their stories): in many cases they were alive many decades before you were.  They saw wars, political changes, social movements, etc., that can never be described in the same way online than from first hand experience.  Honor these people by your presence AND learn all you can online. Temper all of it by having one foot in the world of FREE information and one foot in the world of first-hand contact with those who lived those times. The cool thing about attending a school (in person) is you get the best of both worlds - interaction with others and your time online.

The Ultimate Guide to Gamifying Your Classroom | Edudemic

The Ultimate Guide to Gamifying Your Classroom | Edudemic | Create: 2.0 Tools... and ESL | Scoop.it
Gamification is the process by which teachers use video game design principals in learning environments. The effects are increased student engagement, class wide enjoyment of academic lessons, and high levels of buy-in, even from your most reluctant learners.

When gamifying a classroom there are several things you’ll need to consider. The first is content, as in what are you trying to teach? Like any lesson or unit plan, you’ll need to figure out how to organize and assess new material. You’ll also need to consider your students. What kind of learners are they? What information do they already know? You’ll need to have a basic understanding of your students’ technology skills and how much support each student may need. You’ll want to consider putting together a training manual or some other support system for students who may need extra help. You’ll also need to consider your own comfort level with technology and the actual technology available to you. These considerations may lead you to designing your own game, or relying one a template or already built quest.
