When so many new technologies promise to transform education - what role is left to the teacher?  Why is the teacher still important?  This powerful clip effectively presents compelling arguments for the importance of teaching students in a 'social' classroom setting - with reference to 'how' students learn; making the best of all types of tools to aid what goes on 'in the student's head'.

The online classroom can at times seem like a very cold space and building a supportive and friendly environment for students while getting a clear idea of their capabilities can be quite challenging. Having some zero preparation activities up your sleeve to get students speaking can be a real benefit.

Inspiring Writing using Adventure Game Creation with Book Creator App - Sept 2014 Blog Post

Inspiring Writing using Adventure Game Creation with Book Creator App - Sept 2014 Blog Post | Create: 2.0 Tools... and ESL | Scoop.it

This term I have been working with upper Key Stage 2 pupils to develop interactive adventure style games in Book Creator. One of the features of the app is it allows you to link objects such as images and text to other pages within the book. For images, tap on the image to select it, then tap on the Info icon and use the hyperlink box to type in the page number. For text, highlight the text withIn the text box and you will see a hyperlink option.

This has enabled us to create games where choices, questions and decisions are asked of the user/player throughout. We have then used this as a stimulus for writing, not only creatively but also instruction and advertising. Above are a few screen shots of an example book I made but I didn't want to show the pupils too much as I wanted them to come up with their own ideas.

"I enjoy discussing iPad and other edtech resources with my colleague and friend Sylvia Duckworth almost every week through Twitter. Sylvia is a leader in the French teaching community in Canada, and has created an enormous amount of resources for language teachers to use. I asked her if she wanted to collaborate on this post, and she quickly agreed to do so. Below is a list of iPad apps that we both use in our language classrooms. The ones marked with an * are the essential, must-have ones. We have divided the list into two categories: Content consumption apps and content creation apps."

This search engine seems to block any explicit content that may be visible in another search engine that does not have its settings adjusted from the start.  It will also block sites that contain bad words.  I tested this on a few searches, including a few YouTube searches, and I was not able to access anything inappropriate.

Alfredo Corell's curator insight, November 30, 10:47 AM
