Free Technology for Teachers: Google Expeditions Will Soon Be Available to iPad Users

Free Technology for Teachers: Google Expeditions Will Soon Be Available to iPad Users | Create: 2.0 Tools... and ESL | Scoop.it
Last week Google released another round of updates to their Expeditions program. Expeditions is the virtual reality program that lets students experience immersive views of more than 200 places including the International Space Station, coral reefs, the Taj Mahal, and the White House.

Currently, to experience Expeditions you must have a Google Cardboard viewer and a supported Android device. According to last week's Google for Education blog post, soon you will be able to experience Expeditions on iPads. On your iPad you will be able to use full screen mode to view the Expeditions virtual field trips.

9 iPad Apps that Assess Student Learning

9 iPad Apps that Assess Student Learning | Create: 2.0 Tools... and ESL | Scoop.it

"As an iPad Lab teacher, I work closely with the classroom teachers to deepen and assess their students’ understanding of the material taught in the classroom—oftentimes, teachers ask that I spend additional time in the lab covering material that they’ve already taught.

The apps listed below are some of my favorite apps to use in these instances. Technology allows students opportunities to demonstrate and engage in learning in ways that go beyond using paper and pencil.

A tedious review session, suddenly becomes a something to look forward to. Completing a project that demonstrates the child’s knowledge about a topic becomes a task to be enjoyed and flaunted.

Use these apps to take your classroom learning environment and assessment to the next level."

"I enjoy discussing iPad and other edtech resources with my colleague and friend Sylvia Duckworth almost every week through Twitter. Sylvia is a leader in the French teaching community in Canada, and has created an enormous amount of resources for language teachers to use. I asked her if she wanted to collaborate on this post, and she quickly agreed to do so. Below is a list of iPad apps that we both use in our language classrooms. The ones marked with an * are the essential, must-have ones. We have divided the list into two categories: Content consumption apps and content creation apps."

10 Steps to a Successful School iPad Program

10 Steps to a Successful School iPad Program | Create: 2.0 Tools... and ESL | Scoop.it

iPads have certainly become a highly desired commodity in education. Apple is reporting that schools are purchasing iPads by a ratio of 2:1 over MacBooks. However, that rush to purchase the latest technologies often precedes the careful planning and preparation that’s crucial to their success as educational tools.

Stated simply, technology alone doesn’t have the capacity to improve education. It needs to be woven into a holistic approach to education that encompasses thorough planning and ongoing review of the skills and competencies required by the rapidly changing society that characterizes life in the 21st century.
