History of whaling in Australia

Whaling in Australia commenced in the late 18th century after colonisation. There is no known history of Aboriginal communities in Australia having hunted whales.

This sight is discussing how the protectio agaisnt Whaling commenced in 1930. Before this whaling stations in New Zealand and Australia had killed over 40 000 humpback whales. They are now protected worldwide after the recongnition of the global decline in numbers

This is an overhead picture of the Golden Mile Mine in Kalgoorlie in the 1930's. It was the main mine in WA at this time as the superpit had not been created yet.
