London 2012 Olympics: Great Britain take boxing and fencing golds in week of test events - Telegraph

In London 1908 the British Olympics boxers did pretty well too – the Edwardian Team GB won bronze, silver and gold in the Bantamweight, Featherweight, Lightweight and Heavyweight classes. But then in the first London Olympics of 1908, things were rather loaded in favour of the hosts. Of 42 boxers competing, 32 of them were British. Only 2 Danes, 7 Frenchmen and an Australian stood against them. Qudos to the sole Australian - the legendary Reginald “Snowy” Baker – who managed to break the GBR stranglehold by winning silver in the Middleweight class.

Cycling: London Olympics 2012...  GB cyclists were top in the 1st London Olympics in 1908.  Despite the weather being 'the reverse of pleasant. As a matter of fact, it was the rule rather than the exception for the track to be flooded.'  Riding outside on a concrete track, team GB won 5 gold medals, 3 silvers and 1 bronze medal.
