The NAACP released a new report revealing connections between the trend of the increase of African American and Latino voter turnout. The NAACP want to get the word out to all races and all nationalitites, to excerise their fundamental right to vote. They strongly believe in the peoples voices being heard when it comes who they are willing to vote for.

Even though the 15th amendment was ratified in 1870, many African Americans did not exercise their right until the 1950's - 1960's. In the picture above, African Americans are shown registering to vote in Marion County, Indiana in 1962.

Voting is the cornerstone of democracy. And yet, throughout our history we have excluded indispensable voices from this fundamental right. African-Americans, women and young people all risked their lives for and eventually gained the right to vote.
Jessica LiVolsi's insight:

States are making it more and more difficult for people to vote, virtually guaranteeing that many people won’t really have the right at all.With these new laws in effect, about 4 - 5 million voters were turned away at the polls in November. Courts and legislatures are trying to make an effort to make voting the most fundamental right for Americans.

The 15th amendment granted the right to vote for African American men. Black women were not able to vote, not even white women could vote. The vote for women to vote was not granted until the 1920's. Even though this amendment was ratified on February 3, 1870,  the 15th Amendment would not be fully take place for almost a century. The Southern states were not satisfied this the 15th amendment taking place.Voting Rights Act of 1965 granted the majority of African Americans in the South were registered to vote.
