Imagine being able to literally feel and respond to the events of a game. The Oculus Rift shows how gaming, and in particularly horror games will be changed forever after it's release. Consumers will be able to be involved and immersed in the game on such a level where they will feel as though they are living the game. 
This type of interaction is only possible with VR.

One of the largest manufacturers of cars worldwide, Ford, utilized the Rift to save both time and costs in viewing the design of potential vehicles. This also allows worldwide communication and integration on one project and could prove to be the future of industrial design.

Canada’s military mission in Afghanistan has formally ended, but it’s becoming more evident soldiers aren’t in the clear after they leave the front lines.

Dramatic breakthroughs being made through the use of the Oculus Rift and virtual reality in both medical and military fields. This article references how the Rift assists veterans and former Iraqi solders in overcoming post traumatic stress disorder.
The Rift allows for the potential of curing these disorders as opposed to simply treating them and provides a greater chance on overcoming the psychological damage sustained.  
These developments could substantially reduce the number of suicides of war-time veterans and positively benefits thousands of lives.
