There is a growing fissure between what education used to be in the 20th century and what it turns out to be in the 21st century. While what students learn has remained broadly the same but the ' how ' they learn it is changing rapidly as technology advances. There emerged a transformative kind of technology which not only reshape our perceptions about instruction and teaching but also created a new learning mode easily accessible to students .

Melissa tells the story of UDL and includes video of UDL and the three principles along with the tools that can help support a diversity of learners in the classroom:   the CAST Lesson Builder, UDL Curriculum Self-check and Book Builder.

Started iPad Rock Star Boot Camp Today

Started iPad Rock Star Boot Camp Today | Technology in the Classroom , 1:1 Laptops & iPads and MORE | Scoop.it

Today was my first lesson in my new iPad Rock Star Boot Camp that I am doing with the 4th and 5th graders at my elementary school. The funny things is that I know nothing about music — just to prove that anyone can really rock the iPad if they know a few tricks. So here are the things that we covered today.

Introduction: I explained to my students that they did not need to know music theory — a collective smile grew across their faces. I then explained that they did not need to know how to play an instrument or even be able to sing, most of that we can fix with the iPad.

Step One: Find the right song. The right song is not necessarily your favorite song....

Report Says iPad Cannibalizing PC Sales in Education Market | iPad Insight

Report Says iPad Cannibalizing PC Sales in Education Market | iPad Insight | Technology in the Classroom , 1:1 Laptops & iPads and MORE | Scoop.it
iPad cannibalizing PC sales in education market.

PC sales data for the June quarter of this year provides some clear evidence that the iPad is cannibalizing a significant chunk of PC sales in the education market – at least according to one Wall Street analyst.

As Apple Insider reports, Charlie Wolf of Needham & Company that while PC sales in the education arena are falling iPad sales are booming.

Apple, meanwhile, sold nearly a million iPads in the K-12 market in June, which he said is “definitive evidence” that the iPad has been “cannibalizing” PC sales in the U.S. education market.
Apple’s iPad sales in the June quarter were double what the company sold a year prior. The iPad also reached nearly double the number of Macs Apple sold to education buyers during the quarter.
“Clearly, a significant portion of iPad sales represented an expansion of the market,” Wolf wrote. “But in view of the fact that Mac sales held steady at around 520,000 units but overall PC sales declined by 265,000 units from 1.90 million to 1.64 million units, we believe the inescapable conclusion is that the iPad is beginning to cannibalize a material portion of PC sales in this market.”

I’m sure the availability of the iPad 2 at its lower $399 price has been a big part of the iPad’s growing sales momentum in education. If and when the iPad Mini arrives, at its expected far lower price, I would imagine iPad sales will really take off in this market, as well as with consumers in general.

The 100 Best Web 2.0 Classroom Tools Chosen By You

The 100 Best Web 2.0 Classroom Tools Chosen By You | Technology in the Classroom , 1:1 Laptops & iPads and MORE | Scoop.it

One of the most popular posts on Edudemic in 2010 was The 35 Best Web 2.0 Classroom Tools Chosen By You and I felt it might be time for an update to that list for 2011. In order to put together a list of the best Web 2.0 classroom tools, I polled my Twitter followers, Facebook fans (are they still called fans? Likes?) and ran a contest to try and get as many submissions as possible.

There were more than 900 submissions but many were duplicates. This left me with 100 different Web 2.0 tools that are recommended by your peers. After all, what better way to uncover new products than by the people you are already sharing with?

How Wikis Can Help Schools Organize Their Content

How Wikis Can Help Schools Organize Their Content | Technology in the Classroom , 1:1 Laptops & iPads and MORE | Scoop.it

"Students and teachers are embracing web 2.0 technologies with fervour but administrators are not, even though these remarkable tools can provide much needed cost-saving capabilities. This phenomenon is understandable, because older office tools, an already overburdened staff, and the reluctance to change the way of doing things all discourage jumping into untested waters. However, it is clear that administrative wikis can provide school administrations with radically improved documentation processes. In fact, they can begin to make schools the very platforms that students and teachers need to succeed in their technical endeavours. Why not reinvent schools as technology centres? After all, they are already theatres, restaurants, sports complexes, and more. The road starts with the administrative wiki."
