I realize that this post comes from the pages of,I'm tired of writing about this and you are probably tired of it too, but I have to talk about copyright, creative commons, and plagiarism again. Today, I discovered yet another blog that is copying and pasting posts from my blogs and those of many other edubloggers without permission. Unfortunately, the person behind the blog that is carrying out the practice of copying and pasting the posts did not lift  the post I wrote last month about why you can't just copy and paste posts from another person's blog without their permission.

What it is: Seesaw is the first truly student centered/driven digital portfolio tool that I’ve seen. What makes Seesaw such an awesome option as a digital portfolio is the way that it empowers kids to build and keep a digital portfolio totally independently with features like QR code login for young students. Students can log their learning using photos, videos, drawings, text, PDFs, and links. Seesaw also has direct import features from lots of popular apps. From the teacher perspective, Seesaw makes it simple to access student work immediately from their own device. Content is easily searchable by student and makes it simple to review student progress over time and keep track of growth. In addition to browsing by student, teachers can use ........

Highlight Debates or Analyze Presentations Through Vibby

Highlight Debates or Analyze Presentations Through Vibby | Technology in the Classroom; 1:1 Laptops & iPads & MORE | Scoop.it
One of last week's most popular posts was about a new video highlighting tool called Vibby. Vibby allows you to highlight and comment on sections of YouTube videos. You can even break the videos to play only the sections that you highlight in the video's timeline. An email that I received today from Vibby gave me a good idea about how to use the service to help students analyze debates and presentations.
Cyndi Danner-Kuhn's insight:

Vibby is running a contest called Highlight the GOP Debate. In the contest they're asking people to highlight outrageous moments, exaggerated truths, and fluffy or meaningless statements. The contest is open to anyone who is a registered Vibby user.

Join Sarah Brown Wessling on her summer road trip: a video-based tour of three classrooms around the country.
Cyndi Danner-Kuhn's insight:

There’s nothing that defines summer more than the classic road trip. Great plans, detours, getting lost, finding unexpected adventures, making memories. And when I think about taking road trips, I think about the people I’d most like to cruise with: all of you! I thought we could load up our virtual cars and take off to meet three teachers and their classrooms, in three parts of the country. We’ll get to learn more about who they are, peek into their classrooms with a special Zaption experience, and then learn more about their lessons through interviews and a Twitter chat. What do you say? Are you in?

The “WHY” Guide to #Edchat topics
Although many educational models and pedagogies can seem like a conveyer belt of fads sometimes, many of them at least focus on one or two key educational concerns. Regardless of whether you think it a passing fad, many of them have an aim that you should know about and be considering as a teacher in the 21st Century. I must admit though, as busy teachers, it is understandable that to fully implement a number of them is unrealistic. So here’s my summary of the key take-aways from each model that you should aim to implement in your teaching.

The Influence of Technology on the English Language

The English language is constantly changing and evolving. This evolution has been aided significantly by the ever changing world of technology. While there are those that argue that the influence of technology has "dumbed down" the language, there are others who would claim that a language that does not evolve, is a dying language.

Title

Functionary: Learning to Communicate Mathematically in Online Environments

Bloggy Abstract

I took a collection of recommendations from researchers in the fields of online education and mathematics education and asked our friends at Desmos to tie them all together in a digital middle-school math lesson. These recommendations had never been synthesized before. We piloted and iterated that lesson for a year. I then tested that Desmos lesson against a typical online math lesson (lecture-based instruction followed by recall exercises) in a pretest-posttest design. Both conditions learned. The Desmos lesson learned more. (Read the technical abstract.)
