Enhanced UHD TV Panels Already Being Discussed

Enhanced UHD TV Panels Already Being Discussed | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it
From news.softpedia.com - May 22, 4:53 PM

The 4K ultra-high definition image standard (3840 x 2160 pixels 4K resolution) has only been around for a few months, but already display makers are considering enhancement.

Never mind that the specification is already the farthest ahead of the curve.

Anyway, a report says that in 2014, and maybe even this year, Ultra HD TV panels will start to use wide color gamut (WCG) technology, bringing color saturation to NTSC 100%.

UHDTV: A bridge too far?

UHDTV: A bridge too far? | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it
From broadcastengineering.com - May 22, 4:27 PM

Without a doubt, the top theme at this year’s NAB show was 4K.

There were 4K cameras, video routers, recorders, multiviewers, fiber, projectors, slo-mo systems, 4K cine lenses and, of course, 4K editing, grading and production systems.

Wow, with all that stuff available, why would anyone buy yesterday’s 3G and HD equipment?

Samsung to launch ultrabook screen that will shame Apple’s Retina display

Samsung to launch ultrabook screen that will shame Apple’s Retina display | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it
From www.theinquirer.net - May 22, 11:57 AM

Samsung has unveiled plans to launch a 13.3in LCD display for a future ultrabook range with 3200x1800 resolution, offering 254ppi pixel density.

If true, that would beat Apple's equivalent 13in Macbook Pro Retina display, which has 2560x1600 resolution and 227ppi, as well as Google's Chromebook Pixel that offers the highest pixel density of any laptop on the market, with 2560x1700 resolution and 239ppi.

Samsung and Sharp Introduce New Ultra-High-Resolution Notebook Displays

Samsung and Sharp Introduce New Ultra-High-Resolution Notebook Displays | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it
From www.macrumors.com - May 22, 11:49 AM

While Apple's 15" MacBook Pro was the first consumer notebook to gain a Retina-level display nearly a year ago, it is no longer the only such offering, as Google's Chromebook Pixel with its 12.85" 2560x1700 display and Toshiba's Kirabook with a 2560x1440 220 PPI display have joined the market in recent months.

Seeking to raise the ante on Retina displays, Samsung and Sharp have both introduced new high-resolution displays in the past week, targeting notebooks and ultrabooks with the latest technology.

The new displays from both companies sport 16:9 ratios, making them unfit for Apple's line of notebooks, which all use 16:10 ratio displays, but they should make Retina displays a mainstream feature in the relatively near future.

Samsung to launch 55 and 65 inch 4K LEDs in June

Samsung to launch 55 and 65 inch 4K LEDs in June | Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) | Scoop.it
From www.gizmag.com - May 22, 10:56 AM

Samsung first unveiled its 4K UHD television line in the form of a massive 85-inch model at CES this year, but the company did promise that it would expand to both larger and smaller models.

Now, the company has officially announced that it will be bringing 55- and 65-inch models to market in June.

Samsung did not reveal much about the smaller versions of its 4K TVs, but they will feature its Smart TV upgrade platform, which allows users to connect a "Samsung Evolution Kit" and refresh the device each year.

Users should then be able to enjoy the latest features without having to purchase a new TV.

The company also says that the TV itself will be able to handle upscaling, so standard and high definition content should appear sharp.

Naturally Embed UDL in No Time | MiddleWeb

Naturally Embed UDL in No Time | MiddleWeb | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
From www.middleweb.com - May 20, 8:57 PM
Framing lessons through the lens of the Universal Design for Learning isn't about more time so much as it is about more strategic thinking, says Elizabeth Stein.
Beth Dichter's insight:

In this post a middle school teacher shares a US history project where Common Core standards are aligned with the three Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Principles.

She discusses the process of creating the lesson and states:
"UDL is not about causing change. It’s about looking for natural connections to what one is already doing that can help diversify instruction. It’s about raising our own awareness and turning up our reflective skills so we become accustomed to thinking about how lessons align with the needs of diverse learners."

Within the post she includes the Purpose of the Lesson, the Process, Assessment and a table where she provides the Common Core Standards that were addressed, the lesson activities, and the specific UDL Principles that were addressed.

If you are new to UDL here is a short explanation from the post:

"The aim of a UDL lesson is to create (1) resourceful, knowledgeable learners through multiple means of representation; (2) strategic, goal-directed learners through multiple means of engagement; and (3) purposeful, motivated learners as a result of multiple means of expression."
